Job Description

Editors are the backbone behind the editorial team for The Kraze. Candidates will support in developing, editing, proofreading, and formatting a wide range of topics covered in the stream of K-Pop. This will include, but not limited to, news articles, featured stories, columns, statistics, and reviews.

Our ideal candidates will have strong attention to detail; a proven track record of delivering high-quality, error-free products with tight deadlines; some experience editing any papers or publications, preferably in a magazine style; and advanced skills in using Google Docs through Google Drive. Have knowledge of various types of editing; including content editing, line editing, copy editing, and proofreading. The candidate should be eager to learn and grow in this role and be willing to adapt to changes in focus within the area of communications and outreach.

Editors will be part of the editorial team as a volunteer opportunity. As of now, compensation will not be given.

 

Major Responsibilities

  1. Working with writers to revise content or document structure/organization

  2. Follow style guides along with direct chain of editing process

  3. Editing and proofreading content for grammar, clarity, consistency, tone, and style

  4. Formatting and styling headings, body content, figures, tables, and other document elements (Table of Contents, page numbers, references/citations, etc.) in Microsoft Word

  5. Coordinating with graphic designers on document design and layout

  6. Reviewing draft and final versions of documents for accuracy, completeness, and consistency prior to sending them to the graphic designers for layout

  7. Report to editor-in-chief with any concerns on assignment and availability

  8. Provide status updates on all current projects during weekly tear-up meetings

 

Qualifications

  1. A degree or taking college courses in any relations to communication, journalism, English or media

  2. Have some technical training or experience in different types of editing; including line editing, copy editing, content editing, and proofreading. Experience working with a publication may substitute for formal training.

  3. Fluid command of English language and grammar

  4. High attention to detail and strong organization and project management skills are a must

  5. Advanced knowledge of using Google Docs through Google Drive for collaborating with writer(s)

  6. Ability to clearly convey technical and complex concepts to a variety of audiences

  7. Ability to learn multiple style guides to develop and edit documents

  8. Ability to maintain high-quality work while meeting tight deadlines

  9. Ability to work well both individually and in a team environment

  10. Ability to work after business hours and on weekends, sporadically, as project schedules demand

  11. Must have excellent written & verbal communication skills, including grammar & spelling

  12. Reliable and responsive during all needed communications through emails and online chat

  13. Organized, juggle multiple of projects, and meet tight deadlines
