Golden Child Brightens Up Summer with a Little Goldenness

Golden Child Brightens Up Summer with a Little Goldenness

As of July 4, Golden Child is back with their first single album Goldenness, a title that also shares a special place as the namesake of their fandom. Led by the title track “LET ME,” the album serves as a follow-up to the Woollim Entertainment boy group’s second mini-album released this past January. Despite being on the shorter side with only three tracks, the album is a perfect addition to any summer playlist and certainly succeeds in pulling heartstrings for both fans and casual listeners alike.

With its fast-paced tempo, percussion-driven beat, and poppy hooks, “LET ME” is everything a summer song should be. While the lyrics could read as a love confession, it’s easy to also interpret the song as one for fans with lines like “I’m your superhero.” For anyone having more rainy days than sunny ones this summer, Golden Child is here to help brighten your mood.

The music video for “LET ME” more or less follows the standard summer boy group formula with lots of jumping, numerous neon-colored sets, and plenty of upbeat dance breaks. While the fun concept is nothing new to K-Pop, boy groups, or even Golden Child themselves, it’s safe to say this group has mastered the concept; it’s hard to watch Golden Child and not smile. Similarly, it seems hard for Golden Child to perform without smiling, and that’s part of their charm. Furthermore, “LET ME” serves as the perfect introduction for someone just now getting into the group with quick, fun, Polaroid-like snapshots showcasing the personalities of each member throughout the music video.

“IF” and “Thank You” round out the album and, while the former follows a similar format as “LET ME,” the latter slows things down in the form of an acoustic song that allows the vocalists of Golden Child to really, well...shine. “Thank You” is certainly a softer track compared to the majority of the group’s discography but filled with just as much passion as their more upbeat songs.

All in all, Golden Child hits a home run with this single album: it’s exciting, it’s heartfelt, it’s happy without ever going over the top, and most importantly, it’s 100% golden.
