Start Your Weekend With an Amazing Saturday
What’s your go-to show these days? Grandpas Over Flowers? Salty Tour? The Brainiacs?
TvN’s continuous additions to its variety show collection are adding hints of excitement for viewers. Amazing Saturday, a program that incorporates musical and entertainment elements, is on its way toward settling in as a show fit for the weekend program setlist.
Getting to Know the Show
Featuring SEVENTEEN’s “Very Nice” as its own theme music, Amazing Saturday introduces a new concept every weekend, whether it be on diverse cultures or a theme like “Under the Sea.” The show stars Hyeri, Park Narae, Shin Dongyup, Kim Donghyun, Hanhae, SHINee’s Key, Mun Seyun, the main MC Boom, and new guests along with the famous meokbang YouTuber Haetnim (you can check out her YouTube channel: 입짧은햇님).
Amazing Saturday provides a nice overview on K-Pop as a whole, and, in detail, it allows viewers to discover new aspects of Korean food. Ranging from traditional food to trending fusion treats, the diverse selection of menus never fails to shake the cast’s hearts.
The program is divided into segments, or two rounds, with the objective of succeeding in every mission for the chance to try different food. Both rounds are set up with rules: just like the saying “third time’s a charm,” the cast (commonly referred to as Doremis) is given exactly three opportunities to complete a task. The members choose an artist which in turn provides them with a specific part of a song that seems a bit difficult to understand. The key to winning this game is to perfectly decipher the lyrics through team effort; achieving success before the end of the third round gives Doremis an individual portion of the meal in comparison to when they fail—in that case, Haetnim eats it all.
A bonus game in the middle of the show provides a breather from the intense listening session. Changing up the game every few weeks, Doremis participate in various activities which include playing games of fill-in-the-blank. This only further encourages the members to get the correct answer during the main game. Inevitably, one unlucky Doremi is always ruled out and therefore ineligible to win their portion of the main course.
Able to explore wide aspects of K-Pop and Korean foods (traditional and trendy), Amazing Saturday sets up an open opportunity to get to know more about important components of Korean culture. The intent of creating connections through a universal interest in food and music allows viewers to enjoy the program on a more personal level. With the constant stream of fresh and engaging content, it shouldn’t come as a surprise to see Amazing Saturday taking over your TV screen on the weekend.
