Bloom with The Boyz in Their New Music Video

The Boyz return to their schoolboy charms in their second single album called Bloom Bloom.  The 12-member group from Cre.ker Entertainment brings us the sounds and colors of summer in their new music video, “Bloom Bloom.”

The Song

“Bloom Bloom” screams summertime within the first few notes of the song. It is a drastic difference from the more mature sound that was brought to us in “No Air.” The melody is a mix of digitally-created pop sounds, keyboard, and the occasional percussion that sounds like a glockenspiel and a xylophone. However, the rhythm is created almost exclusively from digital synth sounds, amplified with the synth bass added during the chorus, which saves the song from sounding too much like bubblegum pop. The chorus will get stuck in your head with the catchy line “Bloom bloom pow!” The soft melodic breakdown between the chorus and the second verse provides a great build to the more bass-focused verse. The blending of pop and hip-hop sounds make “Bloom Bloom” a great addition to any summer playlist.

The Music Video

The music video showcases the summer pop sound through the members’ schoolboy aesthetic. They are all dressed in bright colors, playing outside and doing various warm weather activities. It all cumulates with a massive game of baseball. During the game, the boys get distracted by this wilting flower that is brought back to life. Soon after, member Juyeon bats an extra hard hit. The ball goes flying and hits a spaceship and falls away. The Boyz go looking for their ball and discover a whole forest inside the spaceship, as well as a giant hollow baseball and floating bat. They plant the flower in the baseball and bat it to space, where it explodes into fireworks. The ball lands on a desolate planet and begins blooming large, colorful flowers that cover the planet.

The story takes several watches to piece together, but it is quite cute. Some parts of the music video also feature cartoon effects that exaggerate the members playing baseball. The dance breaks take place in the middle of a makeshift baseball diamond, the moves as expected from The Boyz.

This release highlights the types of sounds we should be looking out for as summer comeback season approaches. Get your sunglasses and headphones ready for a season full of fun songs.
