Web Designer


Job Description

Web designers create the face and online presence of our magazine. They are responsible for the front-end design and back-end coding of the website. Content management is key to this position, with a daily responsibility of posting new content and maintaining the website. Just like graphic designers, our ideal candidates live and breathe design and stay up-to-date with the latest design trends. Web designers will have strong attention to detail, push design boundaries and constantly think on new creative solutions. We are focused to have a responsive website, so a sufficient knowledge on responsive, one-page design and HTML/CSS is needed. Adobe Muse and Dreamweaver are the key programs we use to create websites. Web designers should also have good knowledge of design principles, similar to graphic designers. Candidates must have an excellent portfolio showcasing various website designs and knowledge of responsive design, with a variety of small banner-like graphics.

Web designers will be part of the design team as a volunteer opportunity. As of now, compensation will not be given.


Major Responsibilities

  1. Responsible for front-end design and back-end coding of the website

  2. Collaborate with editorial team on posting new content

  3. Collaborate with graphic designers on posting any web promoting/marketing graphcis on the website

  4. Work closely with the art & creative director on the initial design of the website

  5. Follow style guides for consistent branding

  6. Report to the creative director with any concerns on assignment and availability

  7. Provide status updates on all current projects during weekly tear-up meetings



  1. A degree or taking high school/college courses in any relations to web design, graphic design, visual communication AND/OR 2+ years of freelance web design work

  2. Must be proficient in Adobe Muse and Dreamweaver

  3. High attention to detail, strong organization & project management skills and meet tight deadlines are a must

  4. Have a general knowledge of HTML/CSS and Javascript

  5. Ability to learn multiple style guides and apply branding guidelines throughout entire website

  6. Ability to work well both individually and in a virtual team environment

  7. Ability to dedicated various of work hours, as project schedules demand

  8. Reliable and responsive during all needed communications through emails and online chat

  9. Portfolio needs to show variety of website design, including responsive sites and one-page design.
